Cliff Island

Cliff Island is the smallest and most outermost island in Casco Bay with a year-round population of about 60 that swells to 200 in the summer months. It is part of the city of Portland, but, because it's the last stop "down the bay" on the ferry schedule, the commute is a long a difficult one. There are no paved roads on Cliff, and many residents get around on golf carts and bikes. The Cliff Island School, a one room school house, connects students to other island schools through the Outer Islands Teaching and Learning Collaborative up through the 8th grade, when they go by ferry "up" to Portland. There are several active organizations on the island, including the library, the historical society, and the Cliff Island Association
