Frenchboro

One of the islands with the smallest year-round populations, Frenchboro attracted national attention in the 1980s and 90s when it publicized a program to bring "homesteaders" to fill seven new houses on the island built to shore up its year-round community. The one-room schoolhouse on the island, home to the Frenchboro Elementary School, is one of only four remaining in Maine. The library and the historical society share a building on the island, and the annual lobster festival is one of many attractions for seasonal visitors.
