Isle au Haut

Isle au Haut

Lying about six miles south of Stonington, Isle au Haut is accessible only by mailboat, and its southern half is actually part of Acadia National Park. More than 7,000 visitors explore its undeveloped southern reaches each year, while 75+ year-round residents live mostly along the Isle au Haut Thorofare at the north end of the island, where a one-room school house, a small store, and a beautiful small library are all located along the waterfront. Black Dinah Mountain, the island's highest point, was the inspiration for Black Dinah Chocolatiers, whose hand-crafted confections have been featured in Martha Stewart Living and have earned international accolades.
