Frenchboro

One of the islands with the smallest year round populations, Frenchboro attracted national attention in the 1980s and 90s when it publicized a program to bring "homesteaders" to fill seven new houses the island built to shore up its year round community. The effort took time, but the houses are all now full and there has been a baby boom on Frenchboro, swelling the one-room school population and that of the new preschool — primarily with the children of fishing families. A lobster lunch wharf and an excellent local historical society bring visitors from the mainland in the summer.
